The First LGBT Specific Scholarship Fund
On June 12, 2016, the Central Florida community was besieged with the worst mass shooting in our nation’s history. Our community was rocked to its core by this heinous act. In spite of our shock and grief, all of us in Central Florida rallied and came together from all walks of life to show that we were truly united.
As we approach the one-year anniversary of this horrific tragedy, many in our community are seeking ways to forever memorialize those who lost their lives and ensure that they will never be forgotten.
We are proud to announce the formation of “The 49 Fund,” an endowed scholarship fund that will be administered by The Central Florida Foundation (CFF). This unique scholarship will be offered specifically to LGBT students in Central Florida. The scholarships will be awarded to students who strive to by leaders and want to make a positive impact on our community.
We welcome donations from everyone in the community. Whether students that can donate $4.90, young professionals that may donate $49 or small businesses that are able to contribute $490, contributions of all amounts are appreciated. We also know that there are successful individuals and larger businesses that could donate $4,900 and community and business leaders that may donate as much as $49,000. Others in the community are committing to pledge $4,900.00 for five (5) years.
Our goal is that this be a sustaining fund and ultimately raise one million dollars to ensure that the funds can be invested and award annual scholarships in perpetuity.
Please join us in our quest to offer up to ten (10) $4,900 scholarships annually to deserving gay students in Central Florida. All donations are appreciated and will ensure that the 49 who lost their lives will always be remembered.
